Fairytale of a Secretary Turned King – Peggielene Bartel

Peggielene Bartel the Nana Amuah-Afenyi VI is the first female kingof Otuam in Ghana. She currently works as a Secretary at the Embassy pf Ghana in Washington D.C and she has been there for more than 30years.

The female king was born in Takoradi, in Ghana in 1953. She studied in England and thereafter moved to the United State of America, where she became an American Citizen in 1997.

A call from Ghana in year 2008 changed her story from a mere Secretary to a King in her hometown. and to her it was unbelievable. Following the death of her uncle who was King of Otuam then, she was ritually chosen to replace him.

Bartel has been living two different lives in two different continents since she ascended the throne. When she is in the United States she does everything herself, but back in Ghana she stands out as a gold crown-wearing, scepter holding king." They always want to pamper me" she said.

Her real life fairy tale has been documented in a book written by her and an author. She noted that her amazing life journey from secretary to king will be told in a film, after Hollywood star Will Smith bought the rights to the book.

The Hollywood film is expected next year and Queen Latifah is going to be playing her role in the movie. She is so excited because the whole world would know that a secretary can become king and lead wisely.

Amazingly, beyond the bows, respect, royal attire and certain luxuries that comes with her title, being a king in an impoverished place like Otuam is about dealing with the pressing needs and challenges of the community and improving the people's life, says the female king.

In few years she assisted the poor families in her community to pay school fees for their children and brought computers to classrooms. She has provided Otuam with its first ambulance as well as access to clean running waters with the joint efforts of other Americans. Her next priority she says, is to bring state-of-the-art toilets to Otuam.

I wish her all the best in her endeavors as she continues to rule Otuam and I love to say that I am in love with her humility..

All hail the king...... Peggy Bartel.

I hope you enjoyed this story..
